ingredients and preparation.

To begin your steamed clams experience you will need the following ingredients:

2 dozen fresh clams (small collards or Manila clams are ideal)

 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

 4 cloves garlic, chopped

 1 cup dry white wine

 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

 Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Before cooking, ensure the mussels are well-cleaned of sand and gravel. Soak the mussels in cold water for about 20 minutes to loosen the sand. Rinse and scrub the shells under cold running water. Discard mussels that are open and won't close when tapped.

Preheat the oven to 230 °C and place the rack in the center.

In a large skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to burn it.

Increase heat to maximum and pour in white wine and lemon juice. Allow the mixture to boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow some of the alcohol to evaporate.

Add the cleaned mussels to the pan in a single layer, ensuring they are submerged in the liquid. Season to taste with freshly ground black pepper. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil or a lid.

Place the tray in the preheated oven and steam the mussels until they open, about 10-12 minutes. Keep an eye on them and avoid overcooking as it can result in tough, rubbery clams.

When the mussels open, remove the tray from the oven. Using a slotted spoon or tongs, transfer the mussels to a plate and discard any unopened mussels. Be careful not to pour the remaining aromatic liquid into the pan.

Garnish the steamed mussels with chopped fresh parsley to add color and freshness. Serve them right away as an appetizer or main course, accompanied by croutons to soak up the delicious juices.

the taste of mussels.

To enhance the flavor, add a few diced tomatoes or a handful of chopped onions to the garlic butter mixture before adding the mussels. This gives the dish a wonderful sweetness.

If you don't have white wine, you can substitute seafood broth or clam juice. This always provides an aromatic base for the steamed mussels.

To prepare the deluxe sauce, remove the mussels from the pan and set aside. Increase the heat to high and let the liquid simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened. Then add a tablespoon of cold butter for a creamy sauce. Pour this sauce over the mussels just before serving for even more indulgence.

Steamed Clams can be eaten in a variety of ways. Serve them with cooked linguine or spaghetti for a delicious seafood first course, or add them to velvety soups or soups for a hearty meal.

Don't limit yourself to clams or Manila. You can also try this recipe with other types of mussels such as razor clams or clams for a unique taste experience.
